The Advantages to Pay Per Click Marketing
July 2, 2008 |
People that have websites needing traffic normally find that pay per click can be the most cost effective technique they employ to get that extra traffic. For many companies, this is the only method they employ because the results speak for themselves. There are a great many misunderstandings about how pay per click works which I hope will be addressed below.
The concept is simple; by placing a text advertisement with a link to your site on a larger website that is very busy, you can direct traffic to visit yours. Very simply, you will pay the site (that the traffic comes from) a small amount from your account but only providing the visitor stays more than 10 seconds. The sites that provide you with hosting when it comes to this sort of advertisement are usually big with a large amount of traffic and will have some relationship to the product or services that you are trying to put across. One of the most obvious advantages to pay per click is that you will only pay when people come to your site, that is, when the ad is used.
Of course with traditional advertising which is very costly, there is no guarantee any visitor will even bother looking at your ad, let alone give you any business. Some people are worried about competitors clicking to run up their bill or lose them from the screen completely but in practice this rarely happens. From a business viewpoint, pay per click marketing is extremely effective at targeting the exact market the business wants. This means that people browsing the site where your advert is placed are already interested in what it is you are offering.
This pay per click method is best illustrated with Google’s Adwords facility but this is not the only one. All that happens is people will only see your advert if they enter a search phrase or just a single word that you have designated Google to use. If you have paid a great deal for the search term you may find your sponsored advert at the top of Google’s search page or it might be at the side.
For many people, part of the appeal about pay per click marketing is the immediacy. Many companies use this technique to gauge how good their advertising copy will be before they use it in more expensive areas. This is a simple and easy system to understand that is incredibly powerful and effective at the same time so it is not surprising that almost all companies use pay per click search marketing.
